»Haupt- und Nebenstücke« ist das instrumentale Pendant zu Dietmar Bonnens »LiederBooks«. Beide Editionsreihen erscheinen ausschließlich auf Vinyl. »Haupt- und Nebenstücke« vereint kammermusikalische Kompositionen – eigene Stücke werden flankiert von Interpretationen der Stücke anderer Komponisten.

Mit Alexei Aigui, seinem Moskauer Komponistenfreund, arbeitet Bonnen bereits seit 1994 zusammen. Gemeinsam spielen sie ihre Versionen von Werken geschätzter und beeinflussender Kollegen: das Schönberg-Arrangement eines mittelalterlichen Minnelieds, Kurt Weills »Klops Lied« oder »Mom&Dad« von Frank Zappa. Bonnens erstes Arrangement eines Zappa-Stückes ist die Stravinsky-Hommage »Igor's Boogie«. Auf Schönberg wie auch auf J.S. Bach bezieht sich Bonnen in seiner Komposition »Quartett«, die vom RUSSIAN-GERMAN COMPOSERS QUARTET interpretiert wird. »Dhanno Ki Aankhon« ist Teil einer Filmmusik des innovativen indischen Komponisten Rahul Dev Burman. »Ryoan-ji« ist 2006 im gleichnamigen Kloster in Kyoto entstanden und bezieht sich sowohl auf den dortigen Zen-Garten als auch auf John Cage. Japanische Haiku (Gedichte in siebzehn Silben, unterteilt in 5,7,5) bilden die Form von Bonnens Zyklus »Als Wahrzeichen eine Tomate«. Siebzehn Miniaturen entwickelt aus Bildtiteln von Paul Klee. Abgerundet werden die Japan-Bezüge durch Dave Brubecks »Koto Song«.

Bonnen has been working with Alexei Aigui, his Moscow composer friend, since 1994. Together they play their versions of works by esteemed and influential colleagues: the Schönberg arrangement of a medieval minnelied, Kurt Weill's »Klops Lied« or »Mom&Dad« by Frank Zappa. Bonnen's first arrangement of a Zappa piece is the Stravinsky homage »Igor's Boogie«. Bonnen refers to Schönberg as well as J.S. Bach in his composition »Quartet«, which is interpreted by the RUSSIAN-GERMAN COMPOSERS QUARTET. »Dhanno Ki Aankhon« is part of a film score by the innovative Indian composer Rahul Dev Burman. »Ryoan-ji« was composed in 2006 at the monastery of the same name in Kyoto and refers both to the Zen garden there and to John Cage. Japanese haiku (poems in seventeen syllables, divided into 5,7,5) form the shape of Bonnen's cycle »As a landmark a tomato«. Seventeen miniatures developed from picture titles by Paul Klee. The Japan references are rounded off by Dave Brubeck's »Koto Song«.
